Some careers go according to plan. Others develop simply by taking the initiative, stepping up to the plate, and realizing that you’re exactly where you need to be. Dominik Haas, Manager of Banking Solutions at synaforce, is a prime example of this.
An Internship as a Starting Point
Dominik joined synaforce for the first time in late 2016—back then, the company was still known as ITecon Financial IT-Service. It was a four-week voluntary internship, and he didn’t have high expectations. What surprised him was that, from day one, he was given real responsibilities. No filing, no sitting on the sidelines. Instead, he was given creative freedom and direct insight into what makes the company tick.
“I quickly realized that I was given a lot of freedom in how I approached my tasks,” says Dominik. It was this freedom that won him over. The decision was made quickly: In 2017, he began a dual degree program in Business Informatics and an apprenticeship as an IT specialist in application development at synaforce. He hadn’t necessarily had the finance sector in mind as a focus beforehand. Looking back, he says: “I never would have thought I’d get so deeply involved. But it’s exciting and fun.”
Growing Through Responsibility
What follows is not a straightforward career path, but a journey that takes him through various roles: Consultant, Project Manager, and Manager of Banking Solutions. At the same time, Dominik completes a dual master’s degree in IT Management. Each stage brings new tasks, new challenges, and new opportunities.
Particularly formative: the Windows 7 to Windows 10 migration project for ATMs. For Dominik, it is the first project for which he is fully responsible, both technically and organizationally. The challenge is palpable from the very beginning. Many unanswered questions, little clarity at the start.
“The initial uncertainty gave way to greater clarity with each passing week, and a holistic picture emerged that allowed us to successfully bring the project to a close together.”
This experience gave him something that extends beyond the project: the conviction that solutions can be found. Even when the path forward is not yet visible.
At the intersection of technology, customers, and sales
Today, Dominik juggles project management, sales, and technology on a daily basis. It’s a broad range of responsibilities that he hasn’t acquired through courses or certifications, but rather through close collaboration with various teams.
“I’ve learned to understand technical requirements while keeping customer needs in mind. Through collaboration with sales, project management, and development, I’ve been able to continuously expand my knowledge.”
For anyone aspiring to a similar career path, Dominik has clear advice: Stay curious. Consciously look beyond your own area of expertise. Take on responsibility in cross-functional projects and actively seek dialogue with colleagues. Step by step, this builds an understanding of processes, customers, and technology that no textbook alone can convey.
What drives him—and what lies ahead
Why has Dominik stayed all these years? The answer is simpler than you might think: it’s the evolving responsibilities. The opportunities that arise. And the space synaforce allows for them.
“The biggest changes have been in my tasks and responsibilities. The chance to grow through these tasks and achieve success has given me energy and motivation—even if it was challenging at times.”
Dominik has clear goals for the coming years: to continue successfully bringing together clients, projects, and technical teams. To further develop processes, tap into new business opportunities, and build lasting client relationships. And to actively contribute to synaforce’s growth.
A journey that began in 2016 with a voluntary internship—and is far from over.
