On June 3, 2026, synaforce participated in the first ATMIA Europe & Emerging Markets Roadshow in Berlin. Dominik Haas was there and took the stage alongside Henry Zanzer from KAL. Our joint presentation was titled:
“Expanding ATM Services Innovation, the Cloud, and XFS4IoT”
This topic lies precisely at the intersection of what we work on every day at synaforce. Below, we share our key impressions and insights from a day that provided new momentum for the entire industry.
A New Format with Clear Added Value
With the roadshow, ATMIA has introduced a new event format. Instead of a single large annual conference, two compact, high-profile events were held in Berlin and Madrid. The concept proved successful.
In Berlin, decision-makers from banks, cash management, ATM operations, technology, and industry associations came together. The focused format created space for discussions with a depth and level of engagement rarely achieved at larger events.
One impression stood out in particular: despite differing market roles and interests, all participants shared a common goal. Ensuring a sustainable and reliable cash supply was the central theme of the entire day.
The discussion has shifted
Anyone who has followed the debates of recent years could observe a clear shift in Berlin. The question of whether cash has a future at all was hardly an issue anymore. Instead, the focus was on how to ensure a comprehensive and resilient cash supply in the long term.
This shift is remarkable. It shows that the industry has taken on a shaping role and is actively working on viable solutions.
Several presentations and panel discussions confirmed this finding. Cash remains a central component of a resilient payment infrastructure. Its importance as a safety net is growing precisely where it matters most: in crisis and failure scenarios where digital systems reach their limits. Resilience, availability, and trust were repeatedly cited as the decisive factors for the future of the cash infrastructure.
Our Presentation: Cloud Technologies and XFS4IoT in the ATM Environment
In our joint presentation with KAL, we demonstrated how cloud technologies and the XFS4IoT standard are expanding the possibilities in self-service banking. Many operators face the same challenge: they want to future-proof their ATM infrastructure while ensuring uninterrupted operations. This is precisely where cloud-based ATM solutions come into play.
XFS4IoT creates the technical foundation for vendor-neutral and modular systems. In combination with cloud architectures, this gives rise to operating models that are more flexible, scalable, and require less maintenance than traditional on-premise approaches. Our key message to the audience: Innovation and a reliable cash supply go hand in hand and must be considered together. The technology for this is already available.
With this presentation, we were able to inject important momentum into the discussion and share our perspective on modern ATM cloud solutions with an international audience of experts.
European Exchange on Equal Terms
The discussions on the sidelines of the event were at least as valuable as the presentations. We strengthened existing partnerships and made numerous new contacts from across Europe. Recurring topics included regulatory developments surrounding cash, sustainable operating models for ATM networks, and international best practices for ensuring access to cash.
What sets the ATMIA community apart is a strong sense of community. The exchange takes place openly, even across competitive boundaries, because the overarching goal unites all participants.
Conclusion
We’ve gained valuable insights, strengthened our network, and made a concrete contribution to the technical discussion through our presentation. The new format has proven successful and demonstrated that the industry is ready to actively take the next steps.
We look forward to continuing these discussions and working with our partners on the solutions that will shape the ATM infrastructure of tomorrow.
